A Loving Heart
How inscrutable are his ways
Thus Holy Church doth proclaim in glory to amaze
In the exalted feast from Heaven above
Of the Loving Heart of Jesus, King of Love.
See now proclaimed the Heavenly Wisdom
In that most enriched and blessed Kingdom
Eldest Daughter, caught aghast
Land of the Gauls, blessed France.
Thus did charity run dry and cold
The aftermath of teachers of heretical mold
Let such perfidy be ever combatted
Those ideas of Calvin and Cornelius Jansen.
Swift was the response of Love Divine
To make all hearts to Him incline
Hurling forth a heavenly dart
Shewing forth to men His Most Sacred Heart.
Behold then O man, the heart of Christ
Pierced for souls at a costly price
Be filled with Hope, and despair no longer
Look now upon the Heart of Philothea’s lover.
Sweet Heart of Jesu, be my love
Would that I had not sinned, O Loving God
In the face of thy mercy, how ungrateful have been I
Yet how patient thou hast been, calling me to confess and my sins decry.
O Sacred Heart, O Love Divine
Make my heart like to thine
Strengthen me ever in this vale of tears
Never let me be separated from thee, O Heart so Dear! Amen! Amen! Amen!
