God’s Ambrosia
O charming breath! Of th'wondrous banquet table strayed!
And flinging round the fragrant hill of frankincense,
Incenses round the Lamb upon the altar laid;
Th'eternal spotless Victim slain for Man's offence.
Thereon His Heart impaled with Precious Blood o'erflows,
Abundant with desires of everlasting hills.
As pelican with brood his blood as food bestows
So falls God's Ambrosia to remedy our ills.
About His snowy neck was collar gilt inscribed:
"The sheep shall ever pasture on the Beatitudes."
This mortal life with bitter morsels circumscribed,
May we abide with drops of melting dulcitudes.
O Sacred Heart, Mount Hybla's heav'nly honey jar,
Let not with earthly feasts our hearts Thy Heart cast far.
