Prayer for the Victims of Abortion
God, Lord of all,
You have spoken in the book of the prophet Jeremiah,
that You have designated to the human person its purpose
even before You have formed them in their mother’s womb.
As society falls to the evil hands of liberalism,
we pray for those negatively affected and consumed
by unorthodox ideologies,
especially those victims of abortion.
We pray for innocent babies—
lives lost during abortion procedures,
especially those extracted from the uterus
through unsafe means;
may their souls find rest, find peace
even if they were stripped of the chance
to be born in this world.
We pray for mothers—those suffering,
those impoverished,
those victims of crimes against chastity,
those unready to raise a child—
help them, Lord,
give them solace, give them comfort;
we entrust them into the
motherly care and mantle
of your Most Blessed Mother.
We pray for fathers—the partners,
the spouses of these women—
abandoned by indifference, racked by fear,
touch their hearts, O Lord,
that they may embrace the gift of life
with courage and responsibility
that from their duties to the child that they have begotten
they may flee not, but rather protect them
with fatherly love and perseverance
as did St. Joseph to You.
We pray for medical professionals and legislators,
remind them to uphold at all times the sanctity of life,
illuminate their minds with the truth that life is sacred,
from the moment of conception up to natural death,
soften their hearts that they may not see
human life as something disposable
that can be just simply thrown away
and cast aside when unwanted.
We pray for the enlightenment of this society and world,
that the vile culture of death may be replaced
with the true culture of life;
may hearts be converted,
may families be strengthened,
and may all nations defend
the inherent dignity of the human person.
For your Church, O Lord—
make her ever bold in defending the least of these,
and ever merciful toward the wounded,
that she may be a refuge of compassion
and a herald of truth.
This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.
